Snorkelling · Half day

Watermelon on the sandbank.

A morning out at the reef, a long tray of fruit, and the lagoon back to ourselves.

Crew member with a tray of fresh fruit beside a wooden dhow in the lagoon

On a calm morning the lagoon outside Jambiani is a colour you do not entirely believe. The captain takes you out to a reef edge, drops anchor, and hands you a mask.

An hour in the water, then back on the boat for a tray of pineapple, watermelon, banana and the kind of small bananas that taste of honey. The crew has cut them while you were swimming.

On the way back the wind picks up and the sail goes up. Twenty minutes later you are walking up the beach with salt in your hair.
