Jambiani · Beyond the beach

See Jambiani as a village, not a backdrop.

The beach is only one part of Jambiani.

Walking through Jambiani

Walk a few minutes inland and the rhythm changes: sandy lanes, small shops, family compounds, children heading home, fishermen repairing things, food cooking and neighbours stopping to talk.

A good village walk is not about turning people's everyday lives into a tourist attraction.

It is about having someone local help you understand the place you are staying in.

The Zanzibar outside the resort gates

Jambiani is still a living fishing village.

Tourism is here, but it sits alongside ordinary village life rather than replacing it completely.

That is one reason we love living and hosting here.

With the right local guide, a simple walk becomes a way to understand details you would otherwise pass without noticing: how the village is laid out, what people do for work, how the sea shapes the day and how life changes between the beach road and the neighbourhoods behind it.

The route should remain respectful.

If a community visit is included, it should only happen with permission and through a local guide.

This is for you if...

You are curious about Zanzibar beyond beaches and excursions.

You enjoy walking slowly and asking questions.

You would rather understand one village properly than spend the day checking attractions off a list.

You want local context without a staged "cultural show."

Arranged locally from Jambiani

There are hundreds of tours for sale in Zanzibar, and we don’t pretend to run them all. Haji lives here in Jambiani and helps arrange experiences locally, together with people he knows and trusted partners around the island. Morten helps you plan before you arrive. Our job is simple: help you choose a good option and make the logistics easy.
