This is not a polished sport-fishing charter built around a hotel timetable. It is a chance to head out from the coast with local fishermen, learn how they work these waters and spend a morning where fishing is still part of ordinary village life.
A morning that feels like Jambiani
Jambiani grew around the sea long before travellers came here for the beach.
Fishing boats still move in and out with the conditions, catches come back through the village, and wooden dhows remain part of the coastline rather than decoration for tourists.
That is what makes this trip worth doing.
You are not only going out to catch something. You are spending a few hours with people whose knowledge of the water comes from using it.
The boat, the weather and the catch change from day to day. That is part of the point.
What the morning usually looks like
You head out while the day is still relatively cool.
The captain chooses the fishing area according to the conditions. Once you reach the right water, you fish using simple local techniques and the gear provided.
There is time to look back at the coast from the water, talk, learn and simply be on the ocean.
Then you return to Jambiani before the middle of the day.
If preparing the day's catch is available for your trip, we can explain that when you book.
What’s included
- Boat and crew
- Fishing gear
- Fruit and water
Arranged locally from Jambiani
There are hundreds of tours for sale in Zanzibar, and we don’t pretend to run them all. Haji lives here in Jambiani and helps arrange experiences locally, together with people he knows and trusted partners around the island. Morten helps you plan before you arrive. Our job is simple: help you choose a good option and make the logistics easy.
